Yes and no. All Mk3 Focus 1.0 are wet belts, all Mk4 Focus 1.0 are timing chain. In the Fiesta it is more complicated. The changeover was 2020 ish, but I haven't seen a definitive build date, it seems to vary a bit depending on model/output.
Ford recommends their Fiesta, Focus, and other models fitted with the 1.0 Ecoboost engine have a maximum recommended timing belt (wet belt) replacement of every 10 years or 150000 miles (whichever is the soonest), and many vehicles are now due or approaching this milestone.
The latest 1.0 Ecoboost is chain driven, so should be far less problematic (but equally is so new there may be other issues). From what I can gather it was introduced 2018 onwards (Focus) / 2020 onwards (Fiesta) For reference: Belt-in-Oil.
The 1.5 Liter EcoBoost uses DAMB (Direct Acting Mechanical Bucket) valvetrain that has polished solid buckets or also called tappets. A low friction timing belt-in-oil drives the intake and exhaust camshafts. It also has a dynamic tensioner providing less noise and more efficient running reliability.
Ford Focus - Max years before cam belt replacement - elekie&a/c doctor : Suggested change interval for the cam belt is 10 years or 100k miles . So you are well within the limits . The water pump needs to be changed at the same time .
on the 1.5 at least, there's a bit more to it than that. As well as the sump, also involves work at the front of the engine including removing aux belt, timing chain cover, timing chain, timing pulley, balancer shaft pulley etc, which seems a fair bit of work and I guess would make it worthwhile renewing other parts (e.g. timing chain) while in there.
Ford EcoBoost Wet Belt Replacement. Upon removing the cam cover, we confirmed that the timing belt had broken up and some teeth were missing. This had caused the timing to be off, so we proceeded to replace the timing belt and oil pump belt while re-timing the engine to the correct timing. However, we suspected that the broken timing belt and
My local Ford dealer has quoted over 1700 to change the belt on a 2013 Fiesta which has reached 90,000 miles. From what I recall seeing here on the forum any independent garage willing to do it is going to want somewhere around £1200-1500.
They along with the PSA 1.0 3 cylinder turbo are awful engines for longevity. Cambelt break up in the oil, clog the strainer and ruin the bottom end. The oil change intervals are far to long and the oil control rings coke up with carbon resulting in obscene oil consumption. 20 Feb 2023 at 20:48. #160.
I just towed in a 2014 1.0 Ecoboost with 66,000 miles. The owner reported a knocking sound, so knowing the owner does not look after his cars well, I presumed the normal blocked oil pump resulting in big end failure, but when I removed the sump I found three teeth from the timing belt. As far as I can make out the car has never had any major
